Well the fight goes on, which is to say that I haven't completely quit. I seem to be holding at 3-5 smokes on any given day. Much better then the 20+ I use to smoke, which is a great thing, but I'm still smoking which is a bad thing.
I'm planning on making the final push to push these filthy disgusting things out of my life starting Saturday morning.

Day 2 of the smoking fight
Sadly day 2 isn't going quite as well as day 1. I had a moment where the world threw a number of stresses at me and I momentarily caved and had 3/4 of a cigarette.
Thankfully it proved that smoking doesn't really help me deal with stress because once I extinguished the filthy thing all of the original stresses were still there and now added to because I had a smoke.
/sigh
At least I won't make that mistake again.
Back to the fight.

Day 1 of the rest of my life
Well I've finally gone and done it. I've kicked the smoking habit.
Today is day 1 and I feel FREAKIN' FANTASTIC!
I highly recommend the book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. A dear friend gave it to me on CD awhile ago. I did listen to it once and gave a halfhearted attempt to follow the directions. Sadly that attempt failed but this time I'm not attempting anything, I've just stopped smoking.
I have just a little over 3 weeks before the final Vegas trip of the year to feel prepared for Sin City without one of my Sins. Not only do I feel confident I'll be able to enjoy Vegas I KNOW I'll enjoy it even more.

A letter to a soccer mom
Well it certainly isn't a happy year is it?
I just heard about the vote by one of my senators, a certain "soccer-mom" who may have just lost her mind and if things turn out poorly most certainly my vote! What follows is my letter to her........
I just heard you voted for the bailout funding. I am very disappointed at your support for this bill.
Yes I understand that our economy is in jeopardy but nobody knows to what degree nor "how bad" things would truly get if this bill wasn't passed. The businesses most at risk are those businesses that do not have cash on hand, well guess what, there was a time not all that long ago where a business that couldn't pay it's bills closed down! Not, as things are now turning out simply await a government bailout due to their poor choices. This basic capitalist principal applies to banks that over extended themselves, auto makers that don't manufacture products a public wants to buy and small "mom and pop" businesses that do not have the cash on hand to be in business in the first place.
I shouldn't have to point this out but our federal government doesn't even have the money to do this. It's simply going to print more money making our already weak dollar even more of an international joke as it should be with historic and current government spending. This bailout is an outrageous continuation of poor choices. Why so much? Why must it be $700 BILLION? Where did this number come from? Our President? Maybe you haven't noticed but his credibility and the credibility of his buddies is not something I would bet the future of our nation on. You may well think that the Government can handle this, with rules and oversight to protect the tax payers. It would seem that the current Administration can't manage nor account for the money being spent on the current wars we are waging why do you think the Government will be able to do any better with this?
You have succumbed to the standard fear tactic used by our current President to manipulate this nation.
Please understand I'm scared about my future. I may well lose my job next year and so I understand where the economy is and where it is headed but that fear can not be the basis for a choice of this magnitude. What have you done to our budget? What legacy have you just handed to all Americans for many years to come?
Your vote has been cast and I strongly suspect the bill will pass the House. My only hope is that you and every politician that votes for it is correct in their judgment. If you turn out to be right you will have my gratitude and future votes but if this doesn't fix things do not expect my vote in the future. This may turn out to be the biggest mistake you have ever made.
Hoping for the best,
Lance Davey
